Hongik University was founded in 1946 as a private university. By now, Hongik University has more than 30 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programmes. Currently, Hongik University has about 17,000 students, 10 % of whom are foreigners. The university's campuses are located in Seoul, Sejong and Hwaseong.

Academic Programmes | Tuition and Fees
Graduates of Hongik University can obtain Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees.
Depending on the field of study, tuition fees range from 4,516,200 KRW to 6,438,200 KRW ( Bachelor's Degree), from 5,610,000 KRW to 7,515,000 KRW ( Master's Degree and Postgraduate Degree). Registration fee - 130,000 KRW (Bachelor's Degree) 80,000 KRW (Master's Degree and Postgraduate Degree), additional fee for online registration - 8,000 KRW. One-time admission fee for Master's and PhD programmes is 996,000 KRW.

Admission Requirements
International students can provide:
- TOPIK Level 1 certificate (TOPIK IBT is not accepted) or higher
- Level 1 or higher certificate from Hongik Korean Language Centre (only if available).
Certificates of choice are required for admission to graduate and postgraduate programmes:
- TOPIK 3 (IBT/PBT)
- TOEFL 530, CBT 197, iBT 71, IELTS 5.5,TEPS 600(New TEPS 326) or TOEIC 700 or higher.

Korean Language Courses at the University
Korean Language Centre has been established at Hongik University
- Recruitment is conducted 4 times a year for spring, summer, autumn and winter semesters. The duration of each semester is 10 weeks.
- Classes are held 5 days a week for 4 hours.

1. International Scholarship
The admissions committee selects 10 students (4 in spring, 6 in autumn) among students entering with TOPIK Level 5 for the full scholarship. A GPA of 3.0 or higher must be maintained to continue the scholarship from semester 2.
2. Korean Language Scholarship
All incoming students with TOPIK Level 4 or higher are eligible for a scholarship of 50% to 70% of tuition depending on language proficiency. In Seoul, the scholarship is available for the first semester. In Sejong, the scholarship is for up to two years with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
3. Scholarship from Hongik Language Centre
A 30% discount for the first semester is available to incoming students who have completed language courses at Hongik University.
4. Academic Scholarship
For students who have taken more than 12 credits in the previous semester, the scholarship will be awarded based on the GPA earned in the previous semester as follows:
900,000 won will be awarded in the second semester if the student takes and successfully passes all 15 credits of required Korean Language Courses in the first semester (except for students in the 5-year Architecture and 4-year Interior Design programme at Seoul Campus or College of Fine Arts).
5. Students who achieve TOPIK Level 4 or higher for the first time are paid 100,000 KRW, and a payment of 40,000 KRW for any further improvement in TOPIK Level.

1,000,000 KRW is available to all international students in their first semester by reducing tuition fees upon initial registration.
2. Hongik Family Scholarship
120,000 KRW is awarded in the first semester to Hongik undergraduate graduates enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral programme (undergraduate GPA of not lower than 3.0). It cannot be combined with other scholarships.
3. Tuition Scholarship
30% of tuition per semester for students of general PhD studies who are struggling financially and academically motivated.
4. Teaching Assistantship Scholarship (T/AS)
50% of tuition is available to students who assist professors in the preparation and delivery of classes. Each professor may recommend only one student; student recommendations are not accepted.
5. Scholarship for providing classes
Is paid based on the number of hours worked and is for students assisting with courses (including online courses).
6. Work Scholarship
Payment is based on hours worked and is for students assisting in various departments of the university (administrative assistance, PC management, etc.).
7. Global Scholarship
Full tuition fees (including admission fees) are available to students in MSc and PhD programmes for 4 semesters for the MSc programme and 6 semesters for the integrated programme, subject to research work with a supervisor and submission of a joint research plan. Students are required to maintain a GPA of not lower than 3.5 during the scholarship in the second year and obtain the required hours of study. After completing the term, students must publish research with a supervisor within three years in an international scientific journal.

A Korean Language Centre has been established at Hongik University to teach foreign students the Korean language and actively promote Korean studies.
Hongik University's General Korean Language Course is designed specifically for foreigners and ethnic Koreans living outside of South Korea. In addition to language classes, there are extracurricular activities including up to two activities per semester.
The tuition fee is 1,750,000 KRW and the entrance fee is 100,000 KRW. Textbooks are paid separately.
