Hongik University

Hongik University was founded in 1946 as a private university. By now, Hongik University has more than 30 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programmes. Currently, Hongik University has about 17,000 students, 10 % of whom are foreigners. The university's campuses are located in Seoul, Sejong and Hwaseong.

The founding principle of education at Hongik University is the idea of close co-operation between university and industry. The very name of the university translates to "service for the benefit of humanity". Hongik University aims to produce not only individuals who are creative and independent thinkers, but also, importantly, socially adaptable. More than 150,000 Hongyik graduates contribute daily to the development and prosperity of their country and the world in general.

Academic Programmes | Tuition and Fees

Graduates of Hongik University can obtain Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees.


Depending on the field of study, tuition fees range from 4,516,200 KRW to 6,438,200 KRW ( Bachelor's Degree), from 5,610,000 KRW to 7,515,000 KRW ( Master's Degree and Postgraduate Degree). Registration fee - 130,000 KRW (Bachelor's Degree) 80,000 KRW (Master's Degree and Postgraduate Degree), additional fee for online registration - 8,000 KRW. One-time admission fee for Master's and PhD programmes is 996,000 KRW.

Admission Requirements
International students can provide:
  • TOPIK Level 1 certificate (TOPIK IBT is not accepted) or higher
  • Level 1 or higher certificate from Hongik Korean Language Centre (only if available).
All students are enrolled in language courses before starting their studies, depending on their level of Korean language proficiency.
Certificates of choice are required for admission to graduate and postgraduate programmes:
  • TOPIK 3 (IBT/PBT)
  • TOEFL 530, CBT 197, iBT 71, IELTS 5.5,TEPS 600(New TEPS 326) or TOEIC 700 or higher.

Korean Language Courses at the University
Korean Language Centre has been established at Hongik University
  • Recruitment is conducted 4 times a year for spring, summer, autumn and winter semesters. The duration of each semester is 10 weeks.
  • Classes are held 5 days a week for 4 hours.
