Chung Ang University (CAU)
Chung Ang University is a private Korean university with a history dating back to 1918. Today, it is one of the leading universities in South Korea. Its educational programmes are recognised worldwide. According to the QS International University Rankings, it has been ranked among the top 50 best universities in Asia. In The JoongAng University Rankings, the university was ranked an honorable 10th.

The university's strongest areas of study are Pharmacy, Cultural Studies and Arts. Chung Ang University has two campuses in Seoul and Anseong. Anseong is located in southern Seoul and is considered to be a center for Arts and Crafts and Agriculture. The university currently has more than 25,000 students, 2,600 of whom are foreigners. |
Academic Programmes | Tuition and Fees
The University offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programmes (all levels of education from Undergraduate to Postgraduate and Doctoral studies.).
The registration fee is 130,000 KRW and for the Department of Arts and Sports it is KRW 180,000. Undergraduate tuition fees range from 4,648,000 KRW to 7,504,000 KRW depending on the field of study. Postgraduate programmes cost between 5,536,000 KRW and 8,819,000 KRW.

Admission Requirements
Undergraduate programmes are taught in Korean. Applicants must submit (optional):
- TOPIK certificate of at least Level 4 (TOPIK Level 4 is sufficient for the Department of Arts).
- Certificate of Korean language course completed at Chunan Language Institute (not lower than Level 4).
- Certificate of Korean language course at any other accredited Language Institute (not lower than Level 5).
- Sejong Centre certificate of Intermediate Level 2 (Intermediate 2).
Postgraduate programmes are taught in Korean and English. Applicants may submit (optional):
- TOPIK certificate of not lower than Level 3
- TOEFL 530 (CBT 197, IBT 71), IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2 or TEPS 600
Scholarships and Grants
The scholarship is awarded based on Korean and English language proficiency and performance in the previous semester.
Korean language courses at the University
Institute of Language Education at Chung Ang University
- Enrolment is conducted 4 times a year for the spring, summer, autumn and winter term for 10 weeks each.
- Classes are held 5 times a week for 4 hours in the morning and afternoon.
- There are up to 15 students per class.

First-year undergraduate students can receive a 50% or 100% tuition discount for the first semester if they have TOPIK Level 5 and Level 6 respectively. Graduates of Korean Language Centres can receive a refund of the entrance fee ranging from 30% to 50% of the semester fee.
Starting from the second semester, undergraduate students can receive a tuition discount for the next semester:
– 20% if the average score is not lower than 3.2
– 30%, if the average score is not lower than 3.7
– 50% if the average score is not lower than 4.0
– 100%, if the average score is not lower than 4.3
Starting from the second semester, undergraduate students can receive a tuition discount for the next semester:

In the 1st semester for students of Master's and PhD programmes (Graduate and Postgraduate) scholarships are available depending on language proficiency and entrance scores:
- TOPIK, TOPIK IBT Level 6 or TOEFL 91(IBT) / TOEIC 780 / IELTS 6.5 and more - 100% tuition discount (for students of the Department of Social and Humanities and Department of Arts).
- TOPIK, TOPIK IBT Level 5 - 70% tuition discount (for students of the Department of Social and Humanities and Department of Arts).
- 80 out of 100 points and more for entrance exams - 50% tuition discount (for students of the Department of Social and Humanities and Department of Arts).
- 70 out of 100 points and more for entrance exams - 70% tuition discount (for students of the Department of Natural Sciences).
For students of the 2nd semester and the following semesters discounts are provided depending on the current academic performance, if the student gets more than 6 credits per semester:
- For students in the Department of Science with a grade point average of not lower than 3.3, the scholarship is 100% for the second semester of study
- For students of the Department of Social Humanities and Department of Arts for the 2nd-4th semesters and for students of the Department of Science for the 3rd-4th semesters, the discount is:
- TOPIK, TOPIK IBT Level 6 or TOEFL 91(IBT) / TOEIC 780 / IELTS 6.5 and more - 100% tuition discount (for students of the Department of Social and Humanities and Department of Arts).
- TOPIK, TOPIK IBT Level 5 - 70% tuition discount (for students of the Department of Social and Humanities and Department of Arts).

International students can apply for a Korean Language Course from the Institute of Language Education at Chung Ang University. The General Korean Language Course is accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and guarantees high quality of teaching.
Classes are taught using adapted teaching materials. Classroom lessons are complemented by an extensive cultural programme that includes excursions, film screenings, competitions and many other activities. Students study 4 hours a day in the morning or evening 5 days a week. The course is available for all levels.
The tuition fee is 1,700,000 KRW per semester at the Seoul Campus and 1,500,000 KRW per semester at the Davinci Campus in Anseong. Students are required to pay an additional registration fee of 100,000 KRW. Textbooks and workbooks are purchased separately. Their cost is around 60,000 KRW per semester. In addition, students are required to pay an insurance fee of 60,000 KRW.

Students who are not ranked in the top 3 but are eligible for the Top Student Scholarship (only for those who enroll for the next term) receive textbooks for the next term free of charge ( approximately equivalent to 60,000 KRW)
Perfect Attendance Award
Students who have 100% attendance in the previous term: Gift card (10,000 KRW)
Scholarship for the Head of Class
Students who have been Class Heads throughout the term: 60,000 KRW.
Scholarship for students studying at CAU
CAU students, including exchange students, enrolled in the ILE KLP programme: 20% discount on tuition fees is offered for each semester.
International students may move into a dormitory, depending on room availability. The rooms are designed to accommodate two people. Bathroom and shower facilities are shared on each floor. There is no kitchen. The cost of accommodation varies from campus to campus. The cost of one semester in Seoul is 700,000-900,000 KRW, meals are not included. A 6-month stay in Anseong costs 1,600,000 KRW, not including meals.
