Ewha Women’s University
Ewha Women’s University is a private women's university that dates back to 1886. It was Korea's first Western-style institution for women. It was named Ewha (Korean for "pear blossom") by Emperor Gojong. The university was founded by American missionary Mary F. Scranton.
| description In 1946, Ewha University became the first accredited four-year, bachelor's degree programme in Korea. Since then, the university has grown into a world center for women's education based on a harmonious blend of Christian values and Korean pedagogical traditions. The university has more than 20,000 students. According to the QS International University Rankings, Ewha University is ranked 498th in 2024. It is 43rd among Asian universities and ninth among South Korean universities. The core values of Ihwa University are reflected in its motto - "Truth, Virtue, Beauty" (Jin represents knowledge, Sun represents goodness, Mi represents harmony). Ewha University programmes cover all levels of education from undergraduate to postgraduate and doctoral studies.
Tuition fees include a registration fee of 150,000 KRW and a semester fee, which depends on the program and ranges from 7,645,000 KRW to 12,896,000 KRW (for 2024).

Admission Requirements
Education at Ewha Women’s University is open only to women.
Foreign applicants must demonstrate their proficiency in Korean or English.

Undergraduate (Bachelor's degree)
- All first-year students (except the Department of International Studies) must take Korean language courses and Basic Liberal Arts courses provided by the HOKMA College of General Studies, depending on the level of Korean language proficiency.
- Applicants to the Department of International Studies (International Studies, Global Korean Studies) must meet one or more of the following English language requirements:TOEFL certificate (PBT 550, iBT 80), IELTS 6.0, New TEPS 326 or higher
Graduate and Postgraduate (Master's Degree and Postgraduate Degree - PhD)
- TOPIK certificate of Level 4 or higher;
- Korean language course certificate from Ihwa Language Centre, Level 4 or higher;
- TOEFL (PBT 550, iBT 80), IELTS 5.5 (from 2022 6.0), New TEPS 326 or higher
If the foreign applicant has previously studied entirely in English or Korean, the certificates listed above are not required.
Additional requirements for applicants to Master's and Postgraduate Programmes:
1) for admission to the Department of Law, a minimum of three years of experience in the practice of law is required;
2) for admission to the Department of Nursing, applicants must have at least three years of clinical experience;
3) Clinical Medicine and Dentistry programmes are only open to graduates of the Department of Medicine and Department of Dentistry respectively;
4) The Doctorate in Early Childhood Education is open only to applicants working in a field related to early childhood education at the time of admission.
Additional requirements for applicants to Master's and Postgraduate Programmes:

Korean language courses at the University
The Ewha Language Centre
The Ewha Language Centre has been operating at the university since 1962. By now, the center has developed its own approach to teaching Korean and has developed its own textbooks aimed at developing speaking skills.

For applicants from developing countries entering under special conditions who demonstrate leadership potential. The scholarship fully reimburses tuition fees (including registration fee), residential accommodation and provides an allowance as well. For students on undergraduate programmes, the maximum possible duration of the scholarship is 8 semesters. For female students who have transferred from other universities, the payment period is reduced to 4 semesters. For Master's and PhD programmes, it will be 4 and 6 semesters respectively.

For incoming undergraduate students who have completed at least 3 semesters of Korean language course from Ewha Language Centre (Level 6). Partial reimbursement of the first semester fee is provided.
Graduates of Ewha (Bachelor's degree) and those who have graduated or are about to graduate from Ewha (Master's degree) who have been admitted to a doctoral programme in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts and Sports (depending on the chosen specialisation) can be fully supported for one year. Scholarship Requirements:
Applicants must apply within 3 years (6 semesters) of completing their Master's degree at Ewha.
GPA requirements (out of 4.3):
- Master's degree: 3.75 or higher
- Bachelor's degree: 3.50 or higher
A similar scholarship is awarded to students studying in the fields of Natural Sciences and Engineering.

Applicants who have completed or are about to complete the programme of Ewha University (Bachelor's degree) and who have been admitted to a graduate or related programme in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts and Sports may receive a 50% tuition discount for two years of study:
- GPA requirements (out of 4.3): Undergraduate: 3.50 or higher
For undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least 15 credits (undergraduate) or a GPA of not lower than 3.5 (graduate), have no arrears and have shown good academic performance in the previous semester. Students must have a TOPIK certificate of not lower than Level 4 (except for International Studies and Women's Studies in Asia programmes). Undergraduate students are selected by the university independently. Master's students must apply each semester online. The payments depend on the ranking.
For undergraduate and graduate students actively involved in volunteer activities related to international exchange. You must have completed at least 10 (Bachelor's) or 6 (Master's) credits and a grade point average of not lower than 2.0 in the previous semester. It is also necessary to have a TOPIK certificate of not lower than Level 4.
In the classroom, students perform tasks that are close to real life, maximising their Korean language learning ability and deepening their understanding of Korean culture through cultural activities related to the curriculum.
