Kookmin University

Kookmin University was one of the first private universities to emerge in independent Korea. As early as 1946, the basic principles of its work were laid down, which the university still adheres to today. These principles include practice-orientation and the training of committed professionals.

Following these principles, Kookmin University has become one of the largest universities in Seoul. It has more than 14,500 students, 1,800 of whom are foreign nationals. Kookmin University is the flagship university for education in Design, Automotive Engineering, Software Engineering, Business Administration and Korean Language.

Kookmin University actively cooperates with foreign partner universities, businesses and the local community. A number of programmes have been created jointly with major companies such as Huyndai, LG, Bosh, Microsoft. Moreover, the university supports the City Festival of Culture and Arts. In 2024, Kookmin University was ranked among the top twenty universities in South Korea, according to The Joongang University Ranking. And ranked 180th in Asia according to the QS International University Rankings.

Academic Programmes | Tuition and Fees

Kookmin University prepares Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral Degrees.


  • The cost per semester for a Bachelor's Degree ranges from 5,967,000 to 8,060,000 KRW. The entrance fee is 352,000 KRW.
  • The tuition fee for Master's and PhD studies also depends on the course of study and ranges from 4,101, 000 KRW to 5,642,000 KRW per semester.

An additional registration fee of 80,000 KRW is payable for all majors except Music (100,000 KRW).

Admission Requirements
Korean language proficiency
  • a TOPIK Level 4 certificate or higher
  • a certificate of completion of Level 4 Korean Language Course at Kookmin Korean Language Centre or any other language center at the university;
  • any other document proving proficiency in the Korean language (e.g. a diploma from a Korean university).
English language proficiency
  • TOEFL score of at least iBT 80 (CBT 210, PBT 550)
  • IELTS score of at least 5.5 (for International Business School applicants only).
Scholarships and Grants. Undergraduate
There are two types of scholarships available to international students: first-year students based on entrance exam results and an academic scholarship, which depends on last semester's academic performance.
Paid only during the first semester

Students who have moved from other universities, depending on their academic performance and TOPIK Level
Can receive a 20% to 50% discount on their first semester and an allowance of 1,000,000-2,000,000 KRW

Kookmin Korean Language Centre students
30% or 50% discount on the first semester

Starting from the second semester, undergraduate students can receive an academic scholarship
Health insurance and a certain GPA are required, and a minimum of 12 credits must be obtained
Awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence

One-time allowance of 1,000,000~2,000,000 KRW
Can be received if a student passes TOPIK Levels 4-6 during his/her studies

For students majoring in Korean as an International Language, for passing TOPIK Level 6
The university will fully reimburse the fee for the next semester's tuition fee

Kookmin Korean Language Centre
  • Enrollment for the General Korean Language Course is held 4 times a year for the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter semesters. Each semester is 10 weeks long.
  • It is possible to complete 200 hours of Korean language in a semester. Classes are held 5 days a week for 4 hours a day.
