Pukyong National University

Pukyong National University is located in Pusan (Busan), South Korea's second largest city and a major cultural, tourist and business center. Pukyong University was established in 1996 through the merger of Pusan National University of Fisheries and Pusan National University of Technology. Pukyong was the first Korean university which successfully integrated the curriculum of its predecessors. The new university specialised in Marine Engineering, Fisheries Technology and Marine Research. A number of programmes in these fields are implemented only at Pukyong National University.

Today, National University of Pukyong has four campuses with about 23,500 students and more than 1,500 teachers. The university actively participates in government scholarship and grant programmes, while also trying its hand at international projects. Since 2017, Pukyong University has launched a partnership programme with the United Nations.

This university has established itself as a reputable research center. According to the international QS ranking, the result of scientific research conducted under the auspices of Pukyong National University is rated as very high. The emphasis is placed on the harmonious combination of theory and practical skills, which is valued by employers. Pukyong has one of the highest rates of employed graduates in Korea.

The university's symbol is the compass, which symbolises its future-oriented attitude and commitment to innovation. The university's motto is "The future is in our hands''. Pukyong University sees its graduates as well-rounded individuals who are able to find their own use in any field, any society and any conditions.

Academic Programmes | Tuition and Fees

The academic year is divided into two semesters: spring (from March) and autumn (from September). Students leave for holidays in July and December.


Tuition fees at National Pukyong University range from 1,700,000 KRW to 2,241,000 KRW per semester for undergraduate programmes and from 1,905,000 KRW to 2,289,000 KRW per semester for graduate and postgraduate programmes (as of 2024). The admission fee for Master's and PhD Programmes is 178,000 KRW.

Admission Requirements
Korean language proficiency
A TOPIK Level 3 certificate or higher or a Pukyong University Language Centre certificate of not lower than Level 3. A TOPIK Level 4 certificate is required for some fields of study.
English language proficiency
  • TOEFL PBT 550; TOEFL CBT 210
  • TOEFL iBT 80
  • IELTS 5.5 or NEW TEPS 326 certificate.
Scholarships and Grants —
Bachelor's Degree
Allowance of 270,000 KRW per month for working as an assistant in various administrative offices on campus
100,000 KRW (one-time payment)
20 % of tuition fees
Requirements: International students who are not recipients of Myongji Global Scholarship II or Myongji Global Scholarship III.
The scholarship covers tuition for two semesters.
Korean Language Courses at the University
Global Korean Education Centre
  • There are 4 semesters per year: Spring (from March), Summer (from June), Autumn (from September) and Winter (from December).
  • Each semester lasts 10 weeks.
  • Classes are held 5 days a week for 4 hours.
  • The group consists of around 15 people.
