Pusan National University (PNU) dates back to 1946. An interesting fact is that although PNU is a state university, it was founded with donations from local residents. At that time, the university had only two faculties - Humanities and Fisheries.

Today, Pusan National University is one of the main research and educational centers of the country with 4 campuses in Pusan, Yansan, Miryang and Ami. More than 33,500 students study at 15 faculties (colleges - departments), 4 vocational schools and 5 specialised higher schools.

Pusan National University is rightly called a global university. The university is on the 20th position in TheJoongang University Rankings and is 60th in the QS Asian University Rankings 2024.

The university is actively engaged in international activities. It has 578 partners, including universities in the United States, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, Japan and China.

Academic Programmes | Tuition and Fees

The registration fee for all degree programmes is 120,000 KRW (for 2024). Payment for Undergraduate programmes is due in mid-December for the spring semester and mid-January for the autumn semester. For Master's and PhD programmes, the payment dates are early January (spring semester) and mid-July (autumn semester).


The undergraduate tuition fee consists of an admission fee of 378,000 KRW to 412,000 KRW and tuition fees of 1,503,000 KRW to 2,254,000 KRW per semester.


The tuition fee for Master's and Doctoral studies consists of an admission fee of 181,000 KRW and a tuition fee of 2,707,000 KRW to 5,387,000 KRW per semester.

Admission Requirements.
Bachelor's Degree
Depending on the field of study, international students are required to prove their proficiency in Korean or English.
Korean language proficiency
  • TOPIK Level 3 or higher or Level 3 certificate from PNU Language Training Institute or higher
English language proficiency
  • TOEFL (PBT 550, iBT 80)
  • IELTS 5.5
  • NEW TEPS 326 or higher (for some fields of study)

Scholarships and Grants —

Entrance Scholarship (paid for the first semester)
  • students with TOPIK Level 4 are reimbursed the cost of the entrance fee;
  • students with TOPIK 5 level are reimbursed the cost of one semester;
  • students with TOPIK Level 6 are fully reimbursed the cost of one semester and the entrance fee.

Academic scholarship (paid starting from the second semester) depends on academic performance
The university can compensate 100%, 70% or 30% of the cost of the next semester. To be eligible for this scholarship students must have a TOPIK Level 4 or higher certificate.

The TOPIK scholarship is paid for each level advancement starting from the 4th Level
It is worth 400, 4000 KRW (for the year 2023). The scholarship can be received up to three times.

  • TOPIK Level 4 or higher
  • Certificate 3 from the Language Training Institute of PNU
  • TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 5.5, New TEPS 326, TOEIC 675 or higher

A 50% tuition discount is available from the second semester for students who have demonstrated academic excellence with grades below 3.7
Korean Language Courses at the University
Language Training Institute of PNU
  • It is an intensive 10-week course covering the language, culture and history of Korea.
  • Enrolment is for 4 semesters: spring (from March), summer (from June), autumn (from September) and winter (from December).
  • Classes are held 5 days a week for 4 hours. A cultural programme is also provided.
