SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERITY

1. GLO-HARMONY SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

• International students from OECD-listed developing countries

Grant Covers:

• Full tuition fee: tuition waiver for 8 semesters
• Living expenses: 600,000 KRW per month

Application Deadline: January and July

Selection Procedure:
Students apply to SNU international office → International office selects candidates → Samsung Foundation conducts interviews and makes final selection → Results are announced

2. GLOBAL KOREA SCHOLARSHIP (GKS) - KOREAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR SELF-SUPPORTING STUDENTS

Eligibility:

• International self-supporting students who are in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
• Average GPA and GPA for the last semester must be above 80 points out of a possible 100 points

Grant Coverage:
Around 6,000,000 KRW (500,000 KRW per month)
Disbursement period: Around 12 months

Application Deadline: Around February

Selection Procedure:
Students apply to SNU international office → International office sends them to National Institute of International Education → Institute makes selection of candidates → Results are announced

3. KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

• Direct descendants of Korean War Veterans

Grant covers:

• Full tuition: tuition waiver for 8 semesters
• Dorm fees (sponsored by SNU)
• Living expenses: 500,000 KRW monthly

Selection Procedure:
Students apply at the Faculty → Dean's Office makes primary selection → SNU International Office makes secondary selection → Korean War Memorial Foundation confirms selection → Results are announced

Below are the scholarship programmes offered for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Students can apply for the programmes before or during the application period for admission. Recruitment is advertised on the university's website.

1. SNU PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
(SPF - PRESIDENT FELLOWSHIP)

Requirements for participation (must meet both criteria):

• A professor at a major university in a developing country who does NOT hold a PhD.
• Recently admitted to SNU as a postgraduate student (Ph.D.) Priority is given to professors from major universities in developing countries in Asia, Africa, South America, etc.

Number of recipients: Around 8 recipients each semester

Grant Covers:

• Tuition fees: full tuition fee waiver (for a maximum of 6 semesters)
• Living expenses: 1,500,000 KRW ~ 2,000,000 KRW per month for 3-4 years.
• Round-trip airfare (GTS economy class)
• Korean language tuition (only evening classes during regular semesters)
• Reimbursement of public health insurance costs

Application Period:
During the admission period for international students during each semester

Selection procedure:
SPF scholarship application is submitted at the same time as the online application for admission to the SNU Admissions Office (the "Scholarship Application" box must be checked) → Submission of application documents to SNU OIA (supporting documents related to the scholarship application that was submitted online) → SNU admission results → Interview → Decision notification

2. GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS (GSFS)

Scholarship eligibility (must be both):

• International applicants who are currently studying or have completed their studies in eligible countries* and who have applied and been accepted by SNU
• Those who have applied to a specified college/school* participating in the GSFS programme

*The list of eligible countries and participating colleges/schools changes each semester, so applicants should consult the list of colleges/schools participating in the GSFS programme for the upcoming semester (available in the guide sent out each semester by SNU's International Relations Office: https://oia.snu.ac.kr/page/bo_notice.php).

Number of recipients: Around 20

Grant Covers:

• Full tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 4 semesters
• Living expenses: minimum 500,000 KRW per month (varies depending on the recipient's speciality).

Application Period:
During the admission period for international students each semester

Selection Procedure:
GSFS scholarship application is submitted simultaneously with the online application for admission to the SNU Admissions Office (must tick the "Scholarship Application" box) → Selection made by the respective colleges/schools on the basis of admission documents → Decision is made

3. ETHNIC KOREAN SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship Eligibility:

• Ethnic Koreans who wish to pursue higher education at SNU

The grant covers:

• Full tuition waiver for a maximum of 4 semesters ( if requirements are met)
• Living expenses: 900,000 KRW per month for 4 semesters (maximum)
• Round-trip economy class airfare
• Korean language tuition: no fee for 6 months at the Institute of Language Education
• Health insurance (private company)

Application Deadline:
February or March (once a year, the enrollment period is about one month)

Selection procedure:
Applicants submit applications (online and printed) and other documents to Korean embassies in their home countries → Embassies make the first selection → Koreans Abroad Foundation makes the second selection.

4. KOREAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (KGSP/GKS)

Scholarship Eligibility:

• International students applying for undergraduate studies at SNU
• Number of scholarship recipients: Around 40-60 scholarship recipients each year

Grant covers:

• Full tuition fee: tuition fee waiver for 4 semesters for Master's programme and 6 semesters for Doctoral (PhD) programme.
• Monthly allowance: 1,308,330 KRW per month
• Airfare: one round-trip economy class flight.
• Korean language tuition: for one year
• Other expenses: medical insurance, research expenses, thesis printing fee, accommodation expenses and return of documents

* Korean language learning is compulsory and if a student does not reach TOPIK level 3 within one year, he/she is not eligible to participate in the degree programme.

Application deadline: February

Selection Procedure:
Applicants choose one of the following ways to apply.

• University Recommendation Programme: Applicants apply to the SNU Admissions Office → The National Institute of International Education conducts the selection.
• Embassy recommendation programme: Applicants apply to Korean embassies in their home countries → National Institute of International Education will conduct the selection process

Eligibility:
Students who want to work and study or who are recommended by the professor

Duration of work:

• 1st semester: March - August (6 months) OR
• 2nd semester: September - February of the following year (6 months)

Working hours:

• Type 1: 10 hours per week; 40 hours per month
• Type 2: 15 hours per week; 60 hours per month
• Type 3: 20 hours per week; 80 hours per month (for undergraduate and postgraduate students)

Funding: Working time × Hourly rate

Enrollment is conducted 4 times a year:
Autumn (September-November, enrollment in August)
Winter (December-February, enrollment in November)
Spring (March-May, enrollment in February)
Summer (June-August, enrollment in May)

Tuition Costs:
Morning courses: 1,800,000 KRW
Afternoon courses: 650,000 KRW
Registration fee: 60,000 KRW

Accommodation (Dormitory)
Provided on a space-available basis.

Dormitory fee
Double: 552,000 KRW-1,050,000 KRW (including deposit of 150,000 KRW) per semester.
Single: 1,650,000 KRW per semester (including deposit of 150,000 KRW) per semester.
